Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
2nd Week of Advent
We are now in the second week of Advent, and on Monday KJG led us in a beautiful Prayer Service in which we lit the second candle in our wreath, symbolising peace.
God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives
always, and particularly this Advent time.
Premier's Reading Challenge
Congratulations to all students who completed the PRC this year, especially the following students who are this year receiving a Gold Award for completing the Challenge for four years, and to students receiving the Platinum Award for completing the Challenge in every year from Kindergarten to Year 6:
PRC Gold Awardees — Emma Barker, Alexander Donaldson, Landon Glover, Max Harding, Mackenna Leahy, Samuel Leighton, Abby McEvoy
PRC Platinum Awardees — Lauren Battye, Lucy Leighton, Luca Rajic
Certificates will be distributed at Monday morning’s assembly, following 1JR’s Advent Prayer Service.
End-of-Year Awards and Graduation
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 Award recipients; Year 5 Academic, Effort and Application, Most Improved and Christian Leadership Awards will be announced and distributed tomorrow morning. Year 6 Awards will be announced at the conclusion of the Graduation Mass. A special edition of the Carmeletta will be published next week showcasing our award recipients.
At the start of this week, a further relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions was announced that will now allow two parents to attend our Graduation Mass next Tuesday. This is wonderful news and we are very grateful for the change; however, the restrictions have not been relaxed enough to allow parents to attend the Year 6 Farewell Assembly. A letter with full details of our Year 6 celebrations was sent to families yesterday.
Reports and Class Lists
Semester 2 Reports will be sent home next Monday; please take the time to read your child’s report together with them and affirm their many achievements. Class lists with their class teacher’s name will be sent home on Wednesday. Teachers spend many hours planning class lists for the following year, taking into consideration a range of factors, including academic, social and wellbeing needs. Please understand that once the lists have been published, students cannot be moved to another class. Thank you to the staff for the hours of dedication that are required in constructing the class lists to best meet the learning needs of each child.
2020 Yearbook
Thank you and congratulations to Mrs Jan Harvey for coordinating and compiling our 2020 Yearbook. It is a wonderful memory of the events of this year and I recommend it to all. It will be distributed next week to families who have placed an order.
Term Dates 2021
At the beginning of next year, Catholic Education is holding a System Day for staff professional development on Thursday 28 January, which was due to be the first day of Term 1 for students. Rather than have students return to school for just one day at the end of the week, Mt Carmel School will be moving one of our regular Staff Professional Development days from later in the year to Friday 29 January. This means that all students, K-6 will commence Term 1 on Monday 1 February. Term 1 concludes on Thursday 1 April.
This week is the second week of Advent and KJG led a beautiful Advent Prayer Service on Monday.
Gospel, Mark 1:1-8
In this passage, John the Baptist is introduced as a figure preparing the world for the arrival of the Messiah. John's baptism teaches people about their need for repentance. When Jesus arrives, and is baptised, it signals the coming of God's fulfillment and the need of people to recognise their Savior (Michael Fallon, 2020).
Reflection:
How can I keep in touch with God and others?
How can I prepare for the coming of the Lord?
Religious Education in the Classroom
Mrs Turner created the below provocation to use in her Library lessons. Provocations encourage students to think independently by encouraging their interests and the exploration of those interests.
What do you see?
What do you think is going on?
What does it make you wonder?
Below are photographs of students engaging in Advent learning experiences.

Thank you to all the families who have donated items for this special cause. Your generosity and support is most appreciated. This is the last week for donating items as we will be taking the hamper baskets to Yass Vinnies next week.
Enjoy your week!
