Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Departing Students
Schools are required to record destination schools for all departing students. I ask that all families of Year 6 students inform us as soon as possible of the high school your child will be attending. In the Forms & Documents tile on the school website and app is a Year 7 2023 Destination eForm, or you can use the link below to access the form directly. I also request that any K-5 families moving from Mt Carmel at the end of this year send me an email (michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible indicating your intentions along with your destination. Much of this term is spent preparing for next year and our student numbers need to be accurate. Thank you for assisting us with this information gathering.

Yass Valley Council Youth Survey
The Yass Valley Council is seeking feedback from young people (aged 11-24) about the kinds of activities, events or initiatives they would like to see happening in the Yass Valley. There is a very short (5-minute) survey that will allow young people to have a say on how the Office for Regional Youth and the Yass Valley Council spends their funding to best meet the needs of youth in our region. If someone in your family would like to have a say, please use the following link to share your thoughts:

CWA Poster Competition
There are one-and-a-half weeks to go in the annual CWA Poster Competition. Students in Kindergarten and Year 1 can submit a colouring-in sheet, which can be collected from the office or downloaded from this newsletter; students from Year 2 and above can submit a poster on a large sheet of cardboard, containing pictures and written information about Latvia, or they can submit a postcard to family or friends (template also available from the office or downloadable) describing an interesting event, sights or travels in Latvia, or that can submit a travel journal (suggested format is a standard exercise book) telling of a week’s holiday, real or imagined, in Latvia.
Ideas for entries include national dress, food, buildings, cultural events, etc.
All entries must be received at the school office by 9am next Friday 12 August (Week 4) and need to have the student’s school, class, name and age displayed on the back.
Irish and Celtic Music Festival Children’s Workshops
On 17-18 September, as part of the Yass Irish and Celtic Music Festival, Mt Carmel will be hosting the Junior Fleadh.
Fleadh (pronounced flah) is a Celtic word that means festival, and it is a chance for students who are interested in Irish music to come and join in free instrumental and dance workshops, culminating in a concert in the Lovat Chapel; all experience levels are welcome. More information and an RSVP link can be found further in this newsletter.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 3! Year 5/6 students have been praying, reflecting and breaking open scripture through the CSYMA Junior Prayer Journal: Daily Talks with God. On Thursdays, Mt Carmel’s Youth Minister, Clare, leads the Praying for Intentions entry.

We are planning the Book Week parade on Friday 26th August.
All children are asked to come dressed up as a book character on the Friday. Please use any dress ups you have at home or swap with a friend/cousin. It is not meant to be a costly event. I encourage that students have a copy of their book to carry with them when they parade. They can borrow from our library or bring the book from your home library.
We will also be having a sausage sizzle on the Friday to celebrate this special day.
There will be more news as Book Week gets closer.
We are having special moments in our Library lessons!
Regards
