Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Tomorrow morning we will be sharing in a Remembrance Day Prayer Service, created by 1SS. A link to the prayer service will be shared via Compass tomorrow morning for the benefit of families who would like to share in this special experience with us.
Nominations open for Year 5 students who are seeking formal leadership positions in 2022; that is, School Captains, Vice-Captains, House Captains and SRC Representatives, close this Friday. Nominees will present a speech to the school on Thursday next week and meet with an interview panel in Week 8. The panel will then decide on appointments, taking into consideration each nominee’s interview, application and feedback from students and teachers (via voting slips, following the speeches). I wish all who are considering nominating for these positions the very best.
Public Speaking
On Monday evening, Mia Buser spoke at the Rostrum ACT Grand Final at the University of Canberra. Mia presented a four-minute speech, The Power of Music, against seven other students from across the ACT Region and finished in second place. What a magnificent achievement; well done, Mia!
Pre-School Music Time
The Hume Conservatorium of Music in Goulburn has developed a free online Early Childhood Music Program, based around the Early Years Learning Framework, perfect for musical children aged 0 to 7 to sing and play music.
Each week, children are taken on a 20-minute musical journey exploring the core concepts of music through musical games, singing, dancing, fun, puppet friends, and a wide range of musical instruments, learning all about pitch and rhythm in a fun and developmentally appropriate music program for the 0 to 7 year age group. The first session was at 10am this morning but can be found on the Hume Conservatorium’s YouTube Channel, future weeks can be watched live on Facebook. Search for Hume Conservatorium on YouTube or Facebook to find the links.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 6! Over the last few weeks I visited KNB, KJG, and 3ML to join them in their Religious Education lessons.
3ML students are investigating how authors are influenced by their environment and the people around them. I asked students how this links to Religion and below are their responses.
Isabelle: We watched a quiz about different story characters and then linked it to Jesus.
Rosie: We watched different author interviews, like J.K Rowling, to find out how they came up with ideas to write books. This is the same as writing the Bible.
Harry: The Bible is like a mini library because it is a book with lots of different books.
Matthew: There is the Old and New Testament. Bible means library of special books.
Sophie: Mark, Luke, Matthew, and John, are only in the New Testament and they are about Jesus.
Kindergarten students started their lesson with a provocation of different images of Covid and discussed what they could see, think, and wonder.
Remembrance Day Prayer Service
Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute's silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Our Mt Carmel community has many defence force veterans who have dedicated their lives to serve the nation.
1SS will be leading a prayer service this Thursday 11 November to celebrate Remembrance Day. A link will be emailed to families to join us virtually in this prayer service.
Gospel - Luke 6:37-38
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
